From this Week’s Experiences with a Client - Finding Hope
Reminding us that within our hearts lies the key to overcoming adversity and creating a brighter future.
I am a strong believer in the love-based strengths of our human souls.
As a psychologist, I have been privileged over the years witnessing many people find ways to their hearts, thereby being the lucky witness of the good hearts with endless love, profound senses of connectedness, expressed personal skills, remarkable resilience, unwavering optimism, and hope.
These experiences, among others, are what make me believe that we and our planet are not lost. They are driving me and have convinced me that as humans, we have what is needed within us to address and overcome many of the challenges that we currently are facing.
I have to say that I find the global situation with a very threatened climate, wars, on-going lack of human equality, seemingly dissolving democracies, more people suffering from anxiety and depression, all together being very serious. However, I won’t be delving into any details here; I will leave these with people much more qualified to do that, than I am.
Reflecting on a recent session with a young woman this week, I would like to share my profound impressions. These provide a glimpse into my world, offering a picture of just one of the many people globally, who brings hope to the rest of us simply by being, who they are.
I vividly recall the moment about 4 months ago Clara (changed name) came to me the first time. Beautiful, graceful still well-grounded moves, tall and strong yet with a sensitively inquisitive look in her eyes. She came to me as she wanted to be able to live her dreams in the broadest sense, aiming not to feel overwhelmed by all she sensed when meeting the world in daily life and sometimes run down within herself by anxiety.
Over the past months, her confidence in the endless strength and gifts within her inner core, her heart, has grown. That has naturally deepened her connection to her internally based self-worth. This more solid state of mind brings us today to work with her heightened and great sensitivity.
Currently attending an arts school, Clara is lucky to have a teacher, who actually sees and recognizes her strong sensitive and expressive potentials. She tells me during our work that she with the support of her great teacher through movements since I saw her last time during class had tried to express the energy and emotional states of those around her. From this experience and now in therapy being able to connect to her heart she rests happy and peacefully in knowing that not only is she sensing herself and her own feelings during these movements, knowing who she is, but she is also able to rely on and express what she senses from others.
Utilizing expressively her great empathy not being caught in anxious emotions knowing what is herself and sensing at the same time others and even also to recognize her need for time to rest is a very strong positive place for her to be. Together we talk about actual possibilities for her to live her dreams and unfold her potentials.
Clara is at this moment no longer having an underlying fear that her sensitivity is a sign of weakness. Instead, she sees her sensitivity as a gift of life. She has filled up on the heartfelt and strong side of the scale, opposite to the more fear-based side. She no longer views her sensitive and intelligent mind as weak or sick but lovingly cared for, serving as the happy foundation for living her potential. Clara’s simultaneously sensitive mind and solid presence being gold in her life.
Clara's journey, already at this early stage of her life, from initial uncertainty to embracing her sensitivity as a precious gift, exemplifies the profound power within each individual to transcend fear and live a life filled with boundless potential. In this delicate balance, Clara stands as a beacon of hope, reminding us that within our hearts lies the key to overcoming adversity and creating a brighter future.
